The 2026 influenza vaccine has arrived and we are taking bookings NOW.

The flu vaccine may be given at the same time as other vaccines such as COVID-19, shingles, pneumonia, whooping cough, RSV.  Please discuss with your vaccinator during your appointment.

The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone over the age of 6 months (although a pharmacist can vaccinate in children 5 years and above).

There are a couple of changes this year you may like to know about.

Firstly, this year’s vaccine is trivalent as opposed to quadrivalent - meaning it offers good protection against three strains of influenza virus (the fourth strain has not been circulating for years and is no longer required for protection).

Secondly, there are now more choices of flu vaccine than we have ever had.

Here is a brief summary of the available vaccines and eligibility for pharmacist administration.  This can be discussed with your pharmacist during your appointment.

  • Traditional flu vaccines (5 years +)
  • Cell based flu vaccines (5 years +) - may offer greater protection
  • Intranasal vaccine - NEW (5 years - 17 years) - no needle needed
  • Enhanced vaccine (50 years +)

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) criteria remains as before.

You may receive a free flu vaccine under the following circumstances:

  • Aged 65+
  • Pregnant
  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • 5 years and over with certain medical conditions or immunocompromised
